Saruni Basecamp was built on a simple conviction that land endures when it holds real value for the people who live alongside it. Our camps run entirely on solar energy, single-use plastics have been eliminated, and all organic waste is composted with remaining waste responsibly recycled. More than 87% of our team are recruited directly from neighbouring Maasai and Samburu communities, led by an entirely Kenyan workforce. Every stay contributes to the protection of wildlife, the continuity of culture, and the livelihoods of the people this land belongs to.

Insider tips

The drive up to the lodge is steep, rocky, and completely worth it. As you wind your way up the escarpment, keep your eyes on the landscape opening around you by the time you arrive; you'll understand why we built here.
Each villa is tucked into the natural rock face in its own way; no two feel quite the same. Take time on your first morning to explore the contours of your own space, the way the light moves across the stone, and the particular slice of Kalama
Samburu culture is quite magical. A cultural visit with the Samburu community is one of those experiences that quietly reframes everything else about your stay.
